Owners of Nik Collection 3 or 4 can upgrade for as little as $79. Nik Collection 5 is available now and costs $149 for new users. Perspective Efex now supports more than 20 Fujifilm cameras and 40 lenses, although it retains the older look and feel. The other four plug-ins are Perspective Efex, HDR Efex, Dfine and Sharpener. With Nik Collection 5, half of the plug-in suite has been fully modernized, including popular plug-ins like Viveza, Silver Efex and now Color Efex and Analog Efex. You can also add different effects to your photos, like burnt edges, scratches, light leaks or grain. The available effects are inspired by more than 160 years of historic photography and let you reimagine your digital photos using looks inspired by classic cameras, lenses and film processes. Like Color Efex, Analog Efex includes the new UI and improved U-Point technology. Color Efex also includes 29 brand-new authentic film grains, which DxO developed using real-world film stocks in its lab. Using the ClearView slider, you can easily cut through mist, haze and fog, giving your images more detail and contrast. In Nik Collection 5, Color Efex incorporates ClearView technology, first introduced in DxO PhotoLab, DxO's all-in-one photo editing software. And, of course, you can adjust the strength of different filters, stack them and use control points for a huge amount of flexibility. Each filter has six modes you can use to change visual effects. These sliders allow the user more control over how control points interact with the color and brightness of pixels within a selected region, allowing for much more – or less – precision.Ĭolor Efex has more than 50 creative filters and 20 image recipes. Last year, DxO added Luminance and Chrominance Color Selectivity sliders to Viveza and Silver Efex, which are now incorporated into Color Efex and Analog Efex. Bravo Google.Control points utilize U-Point technology, which allows for highly-localized, customizable editing without creating masks manually – U-Point creates the masks for you. If they did the barest of development (which was mostly compatibility to accomodate Adobe's new PSCC app) when it cost $149 you can rest assured that there will be absolutely none now that it is free.

Consumers would have been (very) happy with Snapseed and professionals happy with the professional suite.

So, in less than 3 short years Google has taken one of the most powerful imaging software suites and "sealed its fate" when all they had to do was purchase the single "Snapseed" app and leave the rest of the company viable for professional imagers. There were, and continues to be, no significant updates at all they were getting $149 and making some type of profit or at least paying the engineers.

While they did develop "Analog Efex Pro", improvements on all the other apps all but ceased.

Google dropped that to $149 immediately (just because they could). Prior to the acquisition the whole Nik professional imaging suite was a bargain for any serious professional retailing for just around $500. In 2012 Google bought Nik for one sole (consumer) product, Snapseed, in an (unsuccessful) attempt to lure Facebook users to Google+. The technology was (is) so good that if Nik decided to launch a stand alone imaging editing app Adobe would have had some serious competition. Their U point technology (at the time and still) was revolutionary allowing unprecedented enhancement control. Their product(s) were designed by professional photographers for professional photographers. I along with many imaging professionals have been using Nik since they partnered a decade (+) ago with Nikon.
